Website Host Decision

I suggest we review the following sites to make a decision on who should host the new Computer Club website.
www.justhost.com
www.ipage.com
www.homestead.com
www.networksolutions.com
http://home.officelive.com/Settings/Pages/Home.aspx

The decision should be based upon:
  • easy to use
  • reasonable cost
  • space
  • good templates
  • websites created can be used by all internet browsers (FireFox, IE, etc.)
  • club domain can be transfered
  • store documents

Not required, plus items for the host to have the ability to have:

  • blogs
  • calendars
  • edit code to add back to the top of the page
  • dropdown lists
  • search the site
  • search all websites

    I investigated the hosting websites. HomeStead appears to be the most expensive. OfficeLive and JustHost are the cheapest and efficient. I suggest we further investigate them and do a quite trial of them.

I have setup a OfficeLive account and gave Paul and Jack permission to edit, so we can all review the features before we make a decision.

    I have been working on OfficeLive. It has almost everything, except searching the site and an easy way to sort the presentations (requires html code and not easily maintained). The next step is to investigate JustHost that is suppose to have a site search. However we have to pay and use it, because there is no trial. You can cancel at anytime for a refund. How should we proceed?

    After reviewing the comments from our meeting about Presentations, I came up with an idea to use a spreadsheet. I updated the OfficeLive site with the spreadsheet and updated all the Navigation. So the OfficeLive site is ready to review for structure, ease of use, features, etc.

    OfficeLive allows a redirect of a domain, but not a transfer. So, if we keep the same domain, we will not be able to use OfficeLive, because redirect could be slow. JustHost provides a full transfer for free and their servers are located in Chicago.
